Hana Cohon, cello

Biography

Originally from Seattle, Hana moved to Boston in the fall 2018 to pursue her Master’s degree at the New England Conservatory, where she studies with Yeesun Kim of the Borromeo String Quartet. She recently completed her Bachelor’s degree in Cello Performance at Northwestern University under the tutelage of Hans Jørgen Jensen. Growing up in a family of musicians, she cultivated her love for chamber music by reading string trios, quartets and quintets with her cousins, aunts and uncles. While living in Seattle, Hana appeared as soloist with the Seattle Symphony, Coeur D'Alene Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Seattle Festival Orchestra.

Hana’s musical endeavors as a chamber and orchestral musician have given her the opportunity to travel around the world, and perform in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Chicago Symphony Center, Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, and Shanghai Symphony Hall. She has performed with ensembles such as the New World Symphony and Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and after moving to Boston this year, she has performed with Phoenix Orchestra and Atlantic Symphony.

During the past summers, Hana has participated in several music festivals, including the Tanglewood Music Center, Aspen Music Festival, Heifetz Summer Institute, National Arts Centre of Ottawa Young Artists’ Program, Orford Academy, Meadowmount School of Music, and National Youth Orchestra of the USA.

When Hana is not playing cello, you can find her in the kitchen baking banana bread and cookies, going on runs around Boston, or sifting through thrift shops around the city.
