Lisa Sung, viola

Biography

Australian-Korean violist Lisa Sung is a laureate of international competitions including the 2016 Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition and the 2019 Vienna International Music Competition, amongst others. She has appeared as a concerto soloist at the Sydney Opera House playing the Bartók Concerto, and has played live on WQXR, Medici TV and Sydney radio broadcasts. She is a guest musician with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.

An avid chamber musician, she has performed alongside distinguished artists including Catherine Cho, Mark Kaplan, Joel Krosnick, Joseph Lin, and Paul Neubauer. Her festival appearances include the Verbier Festival Academy, Music@Menlo International Program, Perlman Chamber Workshop, Taos School of Music, Lac Léman Music Masterclass, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and IMS Prussia Cove. This summer she will be joining the New York Philharmonic on their Germany tour, as well as attending Four Seasons Winter Workshop, Yellow Barn, and touring Germany and Poland with the Krzyżowa-Music Festival.

Lisa is currently pursuing her Graduate Diploma at the New England Conservatory under the tutelage of Kim Kashkashian on a Dean’s Scholarship. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School where she studied with Paul Neubauer and Cynthia Phelps as a proud recipient of the inaugural Kovner Fellowship.
